Saltergate Health Centre – Consultation on Draft Planning Brief

A draft planning brief has been published for the Saltergate Health Centre site in Chesterfield. The planning brief, which has been written in consultation with the Chesterfield Royal Hospital Trust, will provide guidance on how the site might be redeveloped in the future (in the event that the current use ends) and this is an opportunity for everyone to have their say in the future of this site.
 
Draft Saltergate Health Centre Planning Brief

A planning brief is used to shape how a site could be developed. It can provide guidance on issues such as what the site could be used for, the design and layout of any new development and any community facilities that the development may require, like public open space or highways improvements. A planning brief also sets out what information a developer will need to provide as part of a planning application to make sure all the possible impacts of the development (positive as well as negative) are considered.

A planning brief does not grant planning permission, and a planning application would still need to be submitted to the council before redevelopment could take place. Planning applications must be subject to separate consultation, so there will be more opportunities to be involved in the future.

The draft planning brief proposes that the site could be redeveloped for about 40 houses, or for other uses such as offices, care homes or education and training uses. The design and layout of any development will need to be in keeping with site’s status as part of the Town Centre Conservation Area and will need to consider the needs of existing neighbours. The main access to the site would continue to be from Saltergate.
