Chesterfield football fans can put their best foot forward at a festival of football to celebrate the reopening of pitches at Holmebrook Valley Park.
The event, organised by Chesterfield Borough Council, takes place on Sunday 3 August from 10am to 2pm and allows residents to try out the improved football pitches at the park.
The event is free and there is no need to book.
Coaches from Chesterfield Football Club, the Football Association and local coaches will be offering training for youngsters.
There will be exhibition matches, including: children’s adults’ women’s and walking football games. Chesterfield FC’s mascot, Chester, will be attending and there will be a bouncy castle and climbing wall for younger visitors.
Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “We are committed to offering opportunities for all our residents to get involved in sport and activities.
“The festival of football is a great opportunity for footie fans to come along, see the new pitches at Holmebrook Valley Park and try them out for themselves. It is a free event and with plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained.”
The council has been able to renovate seven football pitches on the east side of the park thanks to £180,000 in funding from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund.
There are four adult pitches and three mini soccer pitches. Work has included installing new drains, levelling the site to make it easier for players to use, reseeding and other minor works.
