Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework (LDF) will comprise a portfolio of Local Development Documents (LDDs) which together will provide the new spatial planning strategy for the borough to guide development and decisions on planning applications.  At first they will be published separately, but in due course they will be brought together to form a new 'Local Plan'.

There are three new Development Plan Documents (DPDs).  They are the Local Plan; Core Strategy, the Staveley and Rother Valley Corridor Area Action Plan and the Local Plan; Sites and Boundaries. The programme for work on these DPDs can be found in the council's Local Development Scheme, which was updated in November 2012.

This webpage provides information about, and links to, the work that is currently being undertaken or has already been completed.

Current Development Plan

Until the new Local Development Framework documents are in place the Replacement Chesterfield Borough Local Plan contains the most up-to-date local planning policies for the borough and is used in determining planning applications. In response to a request from Chesterfield Borough Council the Secretary of State has directed that 109 of the 112 policies in the Replacement Chesterfield Borough Local Plan (2006) should be saved for continued use. (Letter dated 1st June 2009 from the Government Office for the East Midlands)

Minerals and waste local development documents are prepared by Derbyshire County Council.

The Revocation Order for the East Midlands Regional Strategy (SI 2013/629) has been laid before Parliament and comes into force on 12 April 2013. It will revoke the Regional Strategy in its entirety.

The East Midlands Regional Strategy is also part of the Local Development Framework for Chesterfield.  The Revocation Order for the East Midlands Regional Strategy (SI 2013/629) has now been laid before Parliament and comes into force on 12 April 2013. It will revoke the Regional Strategy in its entirety. For the time being, however,  its policies remain relevant considerations for deciding planning applications and for policy making.  General conformity with the Regional Strategy is also a necessity for development plan documents and the evidence that informed the preparation of the regional plan remains relevant to the LDF.
