Built in 1875 for the ‘shelter and safeguard of Market People’, the Grade II Listed Market Hall is the centrepiece of Chesterfield Town Centre’s Historic Market.
The Market Hall is owned and managed by the Borough Council and there are now ambitious plans to see it refitted and refurbished through a £4.3m project which will see it sensitively transformed to provide modern, more accessible accommodation for traders and businesses. The refurbishment will replace the now dated 1980’s refit, including a substantial rebuild of the western extension.
The refurbishment will provide:
-
Improved access and lifts
-
Simplified layout
-
Refurbished and reconfigured retail hall
-
Glazed atrium to improve lighting and environment
-
Refurbished Assembly Rooms
-
Gallery
-
Incubation office space |

Work on the project is expected to start in early 2012
