Council Tax is a payment that needs to be paid on or before the 1st of every month unless you pay by direct debit or you have agreed an arrangement plan with the Council Tax department. If you do not pay as billed, then you may receive Council Tax Recovery letters. To find out more information about this please click here

Benefits (Housing Benefit & Council Tax Support).
Housing Benefit can help you pay your rent if you are on a low income. You can claim if you have to pay rent for the property you live in. You may be a council tenant, pay rent to a private landlord or a Housing Association.
Council Tax Support can help you if you have to pay Council Tax on your home. These are both means tested benefits, which you may claim for if you are working full or part-time, self-employed, unemployed or retired. There are different rules if you are under or over 60 years old.

Business Rates (Non-Domestic Rates)
Business Rates (otherwise known as National Non-domestic rates or NNDR) are collected by Chesterfield Borough Council. A proportion of the money collected is retained by Chesterfield Borough Council with the rest being paid direct to a central pool for redistribution. Please click here to Report a missed bin collection. Please be aware that your bin will be collected on your allocated collection date between 07:00 and 16:30 and your bin needs to be presented before 07:00 on that day at the latest. Reports will be processed during normal office opening hours.

If you find a stray dog you must do one of the following:
- Return the dog to its owner
- Contact the Dog Warden Service to arrange for it to be collected as soon as possible, the owner may have already reported it as a lost dog.
- Keep the dog for a month after notifying the Dog Warden Service that you have found a stray, and return it to the owner if they come forward.
If you need to report a stray dog or need any advice on this subject please telephone 01246 345734 when the office is open (8.30am to 5pm Monday - Friday).
At all other times please call Careline on 0300 323 0076. The Council provides a reception point for dogs found out of hours and you must take it to the approved kennels at such times. You must phone first and this service is only for dogs found in the Chesterfield Borough area.
