Chesterfield Gateway Enhancement Project

Chesterfield Gateway Enhancement Project is seeking to improve the quality of the ‘welcome’ to Chesterfield, creating an improved sense of arrival to the place.

The project responds to requests from businesses, members of Destination Chesterfield, that told the Council that improving the appeal of entry points in Chesterfield would provide an economic boost to the town.

Barratt Homes and the European Regional Development Fund have contributed £500,000 to make environmental improvements and install public art at key sites around the edges and entry points to the town centre.

The project will focus on the delivery of a range of key improvements to the look and feel of the place at a range of key gateways to Chesterfield, with particular emphasis on Hornsbridge roundabout as it is the key approach into the town from the M1. Barratt Homes were also keen to see this location improved through the money that they are contributing to the scheme as part of the Percent for Art scheme.

A public consultation event is about to take place to help decide which other sites are key. The options are:

  • Lordsmill Roundabout
  • Railway Station link
  • Coach Station approach
  • Markham Road
  • West Bars roundabout
  • Saltergate

Residents can give their views on how to improve the look of entry routes into Chesterfield and which sites they would like the money to be focused on by attending the public consultation event at Unit 9 in the Pavements shopping centre on Friday 25th January or Saturday 26th January between 10am and 4pm or by downloading the questionnaire available here.

The consultation will close on Friday 1st February 2013.

This project is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
