Chesterfield Gateway Enhancement Project

Chesterfield Gateway Enhancement Project is seeking to improve the quality of the ‘welcome’ to Chesterfield, creating an improved sense of arrival to the place.

The project responds to requests from businesses, members of Destination Chesterfield, that told the Council that improving the appeal of entry points in Chesterfield would provide an economic boost to the town.

Barratt Homes and the European Regional Development Fund have contributed £500,000 to make environmental improvements and install public art at key sites around the edges and entry points to the town centre.

The project will focus on the delivery of a range of key improvements to the look and feel of the place at a range of key gateways to Chesterfield, with particular emphasis on Hornsbridge roundabout as it is the key approach into the town from the M1. Barratt Homes were also keen to see this location improved through the money that they are contributing to the scheme as part of the Percent for Art scheme. The second scheme is Railway Station Link and it is being designed to improve the welcome to Chesterfield from teh railway station into the town centre.

A public consultation event took place in January 2013 and selected Hornsbridge Island and Railway Station Link as the key sites for the project.
