Chesterfield Borough Council’s Parking Services manages off-street car parking for approximately 3,000 vehicles per day within the town centre and outer fringe sites. Two thirds of the parking stock is surface 'Pay and Display' car parks and the remainder are controlled by 'Pay on Return' schemes. Approximately two and a half million customers use the service per year, a number of which are blue badge holders. The Council provides 107 spaces which are specifically for use by drivers/passengers with a disability, the majority of which are wide bays. Charges for parking, plus help line details, are displayed on prominent information boards in the vicinity of the pay machines on each car park.

Civils works have now been completed and parking equipment should be installed and functioning by September 2010.
Holywell Cross car park – changes December 2009
Holywell Cross car park (PDF 144KB) now has areas for both short stay parking and long stay parking with increased provision for blue badge holders and parents with small children.
Residents Parking
In addition to off-street parking, Parking Services deal with the administration of the Residents Parking Scheme within the Borough on behalf of the County Council.
Derbyshire County Council previously consulted residents about the introduction of a revised Residents Parking Scheme in Chesterfield which has now been fully introduced.
Free Car Parking
Shoppers benefit from free parking on Mondays and Tuesdays when they arrive and leave before 10am or arrive after 3pm and leave before 7pm at the multi-storey car park on Saltergate.
Councillor David Stone, Lead Member for Safe, Healthy and Active Communities, said: "Traditionally Monday and Tuesday is quieter for town centre shopping so we wanted to encourage more residents and visitors to shop on these days. We will closely monitor the success of the scheme as it could pave the way for more permanent changes to car parking charges that benefit shoppers, local businesses and reduce traffic congestion."
Free Parking for Residents
Chesterfield Borough Council is offering residents of the Borough the opportunity to park in Chesterfield Town Centre for free on Mondays and Tuesdays between selected times from April 2010.
A parking disc has been issued to each household with the 2010 / 2011 Council Tax demand, and will be available for use on Holywell Cross car park on Mondays and Tuesdays for stays between 07:00 hours to 10:00 hours and between 15:00 hours to 19.00 hours.
Pay Less by buying in advance
Regular users of the Council's off-street car parks and multi storey car parks can take advantage of our Parking Saver options. These provide a significant saving whether parking for only a few days a week or more regularly on a monthly basis; single use scratch cards or equivalent are available across a range of sites that enable you to keep an advance ticket (scratch card) in your car that you can activate upon arrival on any day you choose (minimum purchase 3 scratch cards) making them perfect for both people who work in the town and visitors alike. Failure to comply with the parking regulations
A Penalty Charge Notice may be issued to any vehicle parked in contravention of the
parking regulations (PDF 16MB) e.g. failure to display a valid ticket in your vehicle whilst parked in a Pay and Display car park.
Coach Parking
Coach parking is available in the town centre by prior arrangement with the Tourist Information Centre

HGV Lorry Parking
Facilities are available for overnight parking of HGV lorries on our Ashgate Road site which operates as a Park and Walk site during the day, situated a short distance from the town centre amenities.
Safe Car Parks
CCTV covers the majority of our town centre car parks, which operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Eleven car parks have been awarded a secure Park Mark status.
