Ready, Set, Go! Swimming Pool re-opens at Queen’s Park
The main pool at Queen’s Park Sports Centre in Chesterfield re-opens on schedule on Monday 14th December. The pool area has undergone extensive modernisation and improvements including a new air handling unit, a moveable boom, an electronic auto-time system and a re-furbished viewing gallery.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield were the first swimmers to check out the new facilities and were impressed with the improvement work. The Mayor of Chesterfield, Cllr Adrian Kitch, said: “It’s amazing what’s been achieved in such a short space of time. The staff at the Centre and all the contractors involved in the work must be congratulated on delivering such a big project on time.”
The improvement work was paid for after Chesterfield Borough Council, who run the Centre, secured funding from Sport England and from further investment by the Council.
Cllr David Stone, Lead Member for Safe, Healthy and Active Communities and at the Council said: “We’re delighted to have the pool opening again and we’re looking forward to welcoming back our regular swimmers and hopefully some new ones.
“We will be launching a new swimming programme in the New Year and look forward to bringing back swimming galas to Chesterfield so we can take full advantage of these wonderful new facilities.”
