Job description and person specification

We deliver our Careline Response and Support services to over 5000 customers to help them maintain independent living in their own home, and an opportunity has become available to join our Team, which is a leading provider of these services in the North Derbyshire area.

You will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and updating accounts relating to our services, including identifying and taking action to recover outstanding charges. You will also prepare and process purchase orders and invoices, and assist with the monitoring of service budgets.

You will assist with the monitoring of the service, setting up processes to record key performance and statistical information, and completing regular reports, whilst providing administrative support to the Team.  And you will also be responsible for managing bookings at our community rooms.

You must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with vulnerable people of all ages and cognitive ability, and an understanding of the needs of older and vulnerable people. 

You must have excellent organisational and administrative skills, and experience of using computer systems, with an ability to accurately input and extract information from IT systems, completing accurate, clear and concise reports.

An opportunity has arisen to work at Chesterfield's busy, award winning Visitor Information Centre; the Information Centre is the primary Box Office for the Theatres.

You will welcome visitors to Chesterfield, provide them with information and services to enhance the quality of their visit, and be an ambassador for the town.

You will be using computer systems to access information and process bookings and will have excellent customer service skills as well good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office

Your duties will involve you selling tickets and services for the Pomegranate Theatre and the Winding Wheel.

The post will be worked on rota basis working 22 hours per week and will include Saturday and Bank Holiday working and as such will require you to be flexible to provide holiday cover for staff.

The Visitor Information Centre is open 9.30am to 6pm and working hours are between 9am and 6pm.

You must have a current Drivers Licence which allows you to drive vehicles with a manual gearbox (a vehicle will be supplied to use during working time), and be able to work on your own initiative, with minimal supervision. You should ideally have experience of using computer systems and must have the ability to accurately input and extract information from IT systems, completing accurate, clear and concise reports.

All posts within Careline & Support Services are subject to an Enhanced Level Disclosure with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

You will provide an immediate and effective response service to all customers connected to the system, ensuring that all calls are responded to immediately and that appropriate action, advice, and assistance is given or obtained as quickly as possible, and that all relevant persons are kept informed as appropriate

You will attend to calls for assistance from customers and where appropriate summon medical or such other services as required, give emergency help and general assistance in the case of accident or illness, and  assist service users who have had a fall to be picked up.

You will also be responsible for handling and managing alarm equipment, including the installation of alarm units, and carry out health and safety checks as required at the Council’s sheltered housing schemes.

You will work a rota system covering shifts 24/7 over 365 days per annum.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking and resilient individual to join an expanding team to ensure that the Council meets its statutory duties towards homeless applicants.

You will make decisions on homelessness and housing need in accordance with relevant legislation, and policies and procedures operating within the department.

You will be the main point of contact for homelessness applicants and will manage a caseload, actively working towards preventing and relieving homelessness and offering housing advice to customers requesting assistance.

With considerable experience of working in a similar role, you must have a working knowledge of housing, homelessness and related legislation e.g. Housing Act 1996, as amended, and an understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Good written and oral communication and negotiation skills are needed together with being proficient in IT.

The successful candidate should have a relevant Housing qualification or equivalent, and previous practical experience of working in a busy housing or welfare benefits organisation or environment with experience of interviewing clients, debt management and financial inclusion issues.

This is a four day per week post. There may be some flexibility on the working days, to be agreed within the team.

A full current driving licence and access to a vehicle is an essential requirement.
