Talgo confirms ambitions to develop an Innovation Centre

Leading train manufacturer Talgo, has confirmed its ambitions to develop an Innovation Centre, co-located with Barrow Hill Roundhouse.

Talgo held a special event at the Round House on 28 January, at which time they gifted a state-of-the-art 330kph train carriage complete with ‘Rodal’ technology to Chesterfield Borough.

Talgo UK recently established a head office locally and outlined the organisation’s progress towards the delivery of the new innovation centre at the event this week.

Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “We are delighted that leading rolling stock engineering company Talgo, has made a commitment to expand their business locally.

“We are thrilled to receive the Talgo Rodal System. Talgo remain committed to Chesterfield, sharing our ambitions to maximise the opportunities presented by unprecedented growth in the rail sector and transformational infrastructure projects such as HS2.  

 “A number of new highly paid jobs will be created in Chesterfield thanks to Talgo’s UK Headquarters being in the Borough.

“The creation of the new Innovation Centre at Barrow Hill Roundhouse will be phased and will include a suite of specialist research and development laboratories, commercial office and workshop space, and training facilities that will provide a complete education pathway from school through to university level study.”

Attendees at the Barrow Hill Round House event heard speeches from Talgo’s Chairman and President Carlos de Palacio and Councillor Tricia Gilby, as well as having the opportunity to find out more about the engineering company’s future expansion plans that will have a positive impact on the local economy.
