In 2017/2018, 39,200 tonnes of waste was collected in the borough, 46.3 per cent of this was recycled and composted and 53.7 per cent was sent for disposal.
Our target is to recycle 50 per cent of the waste collected by 2020.
The majority of households in the borough have a blue bin and black box/caddy insert for disposing of mixed recycling.
Most properties with gardens also have a green bin for the collection of garden waste and food waste (cooked and raw).
Improving recycling rates
To help us to achieve the 50 per cent recycling and composting target, future initiatives will continue to focus on reducing unwanted items in the blue and green bins which can’t be recycled or composted.
