Plans to revitalise Chesterfield’s historic market are moving ahead.

Public consultation and engagement with local residents, businesses and market traders showed strong overall support for the ambition to invest in our market’s future – creating a modern, vibrant town centre experience with space to host outdoor events, speciality markets and entertainment.

Some issues about the stall layout and size were raised, and we’re continuing to work with market traders to review proposals to ensure the new-look market reflects their feedback as far as is practical within the scheme.

Plans include better lighting and power, improved access and new stall layouts, general paving repairs, new flexible trading areas and repairs to existing stall structures.

This element of the project received £650,000 of funding through the D2N2 Local Growth Fund.
