Markets of Chesterfield

Chesterfield Market is one of the largest open air markets in England and has a rich history dating back to at least 1165. It hosts a variety of different markets and events all year round.

General market

Monday, Friday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm

Value for money goods and fresh seasonal produce from friendly market traders. Everything from fabric to fruit, cards to carpets and bangles to bikes.

Flea market

Thursday, 9am to 4pm

Over 150 stalls full of secondhand goods and unusual bric-a-brac, antique treasures, vintage clothes, jewellery and crafts.

Farmers' market

Second Thursday of every month, 9am to 4pm

Fresh seasonal produce and handmade crafts direct from local farmers and producers.

Market Hall

Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm (café and butchers from 8am)

The Market Hall was built in 1857 by a private company for “the shelter and safeguard of market people.” It has recently reopened after a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Car boot sale

Every Sunday, 8am to 12pm, Proact Football Stadium.

Sell your unwanted goods and make some money with space for up to 200 cars.

Events

We have a varied market events programme throughout the year that traders are encouraged to participate in.

We are always looking for new Traders and would be happy to give advice on any aspect of market life.

Please contact the Markets Team on 01246 345 999 or email markets@chesterfield.gov.uk.

The Markets Office is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. If there is no answer, staff may be out on the market. Please leave a message and someone will get back to you.

Location details

There are two market squares, which are situated either side of the indoor Market Hall. The larger square is called Market Place and the smaller one is called New Square. We also have other stalls situated at various locations throughout the town.
