First Floor Gallery
In the First Floor Gallery, we started the year with an exhibition by Donut Creative Art Studio - Only Time Will Tell, a display of work by young people between 11 and 19.
This will be followed by a first for the Museum, and exhibition of work by the Chesterfield Embroiderers' Guild.
In May, the Gallery will add to the World War II home front exhibition 'Put That Light Out!'. The First Floor Gallery exhibition explores the history of housing in Chesterfield with a focus on the 1940s.
The final exhibtion in our programme for 2020 is a display of work by Joseph Syddall. Born in Old Whittington in 1864, his artistic talent was recognised by Mary Swanwick who sponsored his place at the Herkomer Institute in Bushey. He has been called 'the best draughtsman in England' and, along with other students, was chosen to illustrate Tess of the D'Urbevilles when it was published in the Graphic Magazine,
Syddall left a significant collection of his work to his friend Annea Spong who bequeathed the collection to Chesterfield Museum in 1948.
There’s lots coming up and lots to look forward to in the First Floor Gallery so why not call in and see us.
