But did you know that Chesterfield’s cricketing history stretches right back to the 18th century? There are records of club matches played at various locations throughout the town.

The Chesterfield Cricket Club originally played at the New Recreation Ground on Saltergate (later the home of Chesterfield FC) until, in February 1894, the exclusive use of the new cricket ground at Queen's Park was granted to the club on their match days. The first game was played there on 5 May 1894.

This original photograph shows Chesterfield Town Cricket Team outside the pavilion in Queens Park, during the cricket season of summer 1902. You’ll notice the mount carries the name of local photographer, Seaman and Sons Chesterfield, and the names of the players beneath.
