Chesterfield Town Cricket Team
July 2017 saw Chesterfield play host to the Custom Solar Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council. The festival was held from Monday 3 July until Saturday 8 July 2017, five days of action-packed cricket at Chesterfield’s beautiful Queen’s Park.
But did you know that Chesterfield’s cricketing history stretches right back to the 18th century? There are records of club matches played at various locations throughout the town.
The Chesterfield Cricket Club originally played at the New Recreation Ground on Saltergate (later the home of Chesterfield FC) until, in February 1894, the exclusive use of the new cricket ground at Queen's Park was granted to the club on their match days. The first game was played there on 5 May 1894.
