New payment provider in Chesterfield car parks

Visitors to Chesterfield will be able to use the RingGo mobile app to pay for parking in council owned car parks.

From Tuesday 5 September RingGo will replace PayByPhone and be in use in surface car parks around Chesterfield including Spa Lane, Albion Road, Derbyshire Times, Hollis Lane, Station Road, Holywell Cross (Donut), Durrant Road, Devonshire Street, St Mary’s Gate, Theatre Lane and all Queen’s Park car parks.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “We know the convenience of cashless parking is something that lots of visitors to our town centre want. Using cashless parking allows visitors to pay but also to track and extend their parking time so that they can spend more time in and around our town centre.”

Using the application on their mobile phone visitors can pay for parking and then extend their parking time without needing to return to their vehicle. It also allows visitors to use their debit or credit card to pay for parking.

RingGo is the UK’s most widely available digital parking solution with over 19 million active users across the UK.

Peter O’Driscoll, Managing Director of RingGo, said: “Using your mobile phone for parking is a quick and easy way to pay, putting the power in motorists’ hands. You no longer have to hunt around for loose coins to feed the machine. Drivers are not only adapting to new technologies but are expecting them to be readily available. Apps are second nature to many people, and this streamlined process will prove a popular choice. We’re excited to offer RingGo to motorists in Chesterfield.”

Visitors will still be able to pay for their parking using cash at the pay and display machines located in each car park.

To use the app, you will need to download RingGo from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Once you have registered with RingGo you will be able to select the car park using the location code. Then you can select the duration and pay through the app. Users do not need to display a ticket if they have used RingGo.

Visitors can also add more time to their stay through the app without having to return to their vehicle.

Weekly, monthly and annual parking savers can also be purchased through the RingGo app.

There are no transaction fees when using the RingGo app.

Receipts for parking can be texted to the user and expiry reminders can be set up but each of these incurs an additional 20 pence charge.
