Chesterfield Borough Council is reminding residents that they do not have to re-register to vote in the European Union referendum.
Some residents have contacted the council worried that they need to register again to vote in the referendum on 23 June after reading misleading posts on social media.
This is not the case.
Huw Bowen, Chesterfield Borough Council’s chief executive and electoral registration officer, said: “I’d like to reassure residents that if they are already registered to vote, they do not need to register again to vote in the EU referendum.
“Anyone who has not registered previously needs to register to vote and should make sure they are registered by Tuesday 7 June. Anyone who has not registered by then will not be able to have their say on 23 June.”
Anyone not registered to vote can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Anyone who is not sure if they have registered or has any queries, can contact the council’s elections team by calling (01246) 345402 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
