Visitors to Chesterfield Museum this Saturday can find out their connections to a local regiment in a special event.
The ‘Was your grandfather a soldier?’ event takes place at the popular St Mary’s Gate attraction on Saturday 2 March between 11am and 3pm.
Mercian regiment curator and archivist Jennifer Brookman will be available to help people find out about researching their family’s military connections.
Councillor Steve Brunt, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “So many local people have connections with the Mercian regiment – maybe their grandfather or great-grandfather served in the First World War or Second World War and they would like to find out more.
“This is an excellent opportunity that we are able to host in partnership with The Mercian Regiment and I would encourage people to be involved.”
Twenty minute slots are available on a first come first served basis between 11am and 3pm. To book a slot, call the museum on (01246) 345727.
Chesterfield Museum is open each Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Admission is free although donations are welcome to cover the cost of events.
