Building new homes

Building new homes

Where resources allow, we have plans for building and acquiring new council homes to help meet housing demand in the borough.

From 2023/2024 onwards, our homes are being designed and built to achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A rating, with a range of sustainability measures including energy efficient boilers, increased levels of insulation in the floors, walls and ceilings, cycle stores, electric car charging points and rainwater recycling through collection points in the garden.

Previous new build projects

Heaton Court developmentIn 2021, we successfully completed an innovative development to bring additional council houses to Brampton. Ten new properties were created at the modular housing scheme at Heaton Court – the first properties of their kind in the borough.

Badger Croft developmentIn 2022, we completed a £4.1 million scheme to build 21 new homes at Badger Croft in Loundsley Green. The 21 properties comprised of ten two-bedroom houses, six three-bedroom houses, four four-bedroom houses and a three-bedroom adapted bungalow.

Acquisitions

In addition to our own new build programme when suitable opportunities are identified, we acquire new build properties directly from developers.  We have acquired thirty-seven new build homes directly at sites in Hazlehurst, Brimington, Brampton and Grangewood to meet waiting list demand since 2020.

Future plans

During 2023 to 2024, we started our programme to build 40 new council homes on sites across Middlecroft, Lowgates and Mastin Moor.
