Building better opportunities

Building Better Opportunities (BBO) is a support programme for unemployed or economically inactive people aged 16+, or 15 if not in education, employment or training (NEET).

Building Better Opportunities is designed to promote social inclusion and remove barriers to employment.

The programme is funded by Big Lottery and European Social Fund until December 2019, and has three complimentary, but separate strands that sit under the BBO programme.

Towards Work

For people who want to access training or employment but have barriers preventing them from moving forward. Examples of barriers could be mental health, disability, low skills, criminal record and childcare.

Towards Work offers: 

  • personalised one-to-one support with work for 12 months, including three months in-work support
  • support with the costs of travel, childcare, qualifications etc. if these are identified as a barrier at the clients needs assessment.

Money Sorted

For people who need help with money management and financial inclusion support.

Money Sorted offers: 

  • personalised one-to-one support with work for six months
  • support with the costs of travel, childcare etc. if these are identified as a barrier at the clients needs assessment.

Opportunity and Change

For people who have multiple complex needs that are stopping them from being socially included, and preventing them from achieving stability to gain employment.

Multiple and complex needs include homelessness, or being vulnerably housed, having mental health issues, substance misuse issues, offending or ex-offending past. Clients need to have at least two complex needs to be eligible for support.

Opportunity and Change offers: 

  • personalised one-to-one support with work for 12 to 18 months
  • support with the costs of travel, childcare etc. if these are identified as a barrier at the clients needs assessment.
