Christmas lights switch-on

Christmas Lights Switch On

Join us at the Christmas lights switch-on and market in Chesterfield town centre on Sunday 19 November 2023.

Street entertainment will start at 12 noon, followed by a free stage show from 3pm and then the lights will be turned on at 4.45pm.

This is a fantastic event for all the family to enjoy – whether you want to sing along to some Christmas carols, listen to a steel band, be entertained by the National Elf Service, or simply see the festive lights being turned on across the town, there is something for everyone.

This year’s special guest appearing in Rykneld Square is Paddington™. He will be appearing outside the Visitor Information Centre at intervals between 12 noon and 3.30pm - don’t forget to bring your phones or cameras to take photos of Paddington during your visit.

What's happening and when?

This free event runs from 12 noon to 6pm, with the big switch on happening at 4.45pm.

The stage show will be held in New Square from 3.30pm with carol singing Christmas Crackers, Rose Choir and a stunning light show with juggling and hula-hoops.

Meet the stars of this year’s pantomime ‘Aladdin’ and get the chance to win some free tickets to see the show.

You can also visit the Festival of Christmas Trees and make a day of it exploring Chesterfield and picking up those special gifts from our high street stores and independent shops, or grab a bite in one of Chesterfield's many fine cafes, tea rooms, restaurants or bars.

A market will run alongside this event in the Market Square and the Market Hall and café will also be open.

All entertainment is subject to last minute changes.
