Community sports

In June 2013, Chesterfield Borough Council teamed up with the Community Sports Trust to get people more active in Chesterfield. Working with partners and community groups to develop new clubs, classes and activities for all ages and interests, the Community Sports Trust aims to break down the barriers and get people moving and living longer.

Jo Brown, community sports activator for Chesterfield and Staveley, is working with local partners to build communities where people of all ages have the opportunity take part in sport and recreation.

Jo says:

"Being active makes you feel great and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people. There are already lots of great opportunities to take part in clubs and activities across Chesterfield, I want to see this expand and develop to new activities on people's doorstep."

For more information on the great work the Community Sports Trust has done across Derbyshire over the last five years, visit their webpage at www.communitysportstrust.co.uk.

Jo was appointed as the community sports activator in October 2014 and will be aiming to:

  • increase opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in clubs, classes and activities
  • support community groups to improve opportunities in their local area
  • support leaders and volunteers in their local community
  • support local communties to organise Village Games and other community events
