Public litter bins

Public litter bins

There are litter bins across Chesterfield to help keep our streets, parks and other public places tidy.

If you are out and about and you can't take your litter home with you, please use one of our public bins.

You can also put bagged dog mess in a public bin, or in one of our special dog poo bins if one is available.

Public bins are not for general household waste - you should dispose of that in your bins at home or you could be fined. It is also an offence for businesses to dispose of their commercial waste in public bins.

Recycling bins

We have installed new 'blue and black' litter and recycling bins at some town centre locations. That means you can recycle plastic bottles, glass bottles and tin cans on the blue side, while the black side will still be used for general litter.

What if a bin is full?

We empty public bins regularly but during busy times, some bins will get full.

If a bin is full or overflowing please take your litter home or put it in a different bin. Please also let us know so that we can empty it and clean up any mess.

Report a problem

Let us know if a public bin is damaged, missing or overflowing.

You will need to tell us the address where the bin is, or be able to mark the location on a map.

You can send us a photo of the problem, but don't take photos if you feel it isn't safe.

Request a new public bin

If there is a problem with litter or dog mess in your area, we may be able to put in a new public bin.

You can use the form above to tell us where the problem is and why a new bin would help.
