The Rural Rate Relief Scheme is designed to assist businesses in rural areas.

In Chesterfield borough, the following areas have been designated as rural:

• Poolsbrook
• Duckmanton
• Mastin Moor
• Woodthorpe
• Barrow Hill

The scheme has two elements: mandatory and discretionary relief.

Certain types of properties in a rural settlement with a population below 3,000 may be entitled to relief.

The 2016 autumn statement confirmed the double of rural rate relief from 50% to 100% from 1st April 2017. Local authorities should continue to use their local discount powers to grant 100% rural rate relief to eligible ratepayers. Please contact the council direct for further details.
