Job description and person specification

We are currently looking for the perfect candidate to join our streetscene team.

Streetscene sweeper drivers are responsible for keeping the highway and public spaces of Chesterfield clean. The post involves mechanically sweeping roads and footpaths, chemically treating the paths, driving large and small sweepers, assisting with maintaining the sweepers and assisting with planning routes.

Our ideal candidate will have a background in street cleansing or comparable sectors. It would also be an advantage if you possess a LGV license and driver CPC.

You will be required to work some weekend and bank holidays on a rota basis so flexibility is essential part of this post.

You will need to be a proactive and positive person who can contribute to the commercial activities we undertake and have a positive influence on the reputation of the service.

Job description and person specification

Chesterfield Borough Council has a housing stock of approximately 9,500 properties.  Our stock comprises of a range of housing types such as flats, bungalows, houses, maisonettes and older persons schemes.  The Housing Options team are responsible for:

  • Registration of housing applications and management of the housing waiting list
  • Allocating and letting properties
  • Signing up new tenants
  • Homelessness prevention and homeless applications 
  • Adaptations

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who is looking to pursue a career in Housing Services.  The successful applicant can look forward to working in a busy environment; dealing with housing applications and housing related enquiries.

You will be based at On the Move, situated on Low Pavements in Chesterfield Town Centre but will have the opportunity to visit our other sites to get an understanding of Housing Services and build relationships with other teams.

The post offers the opportunity to develop Customer Care skills to a high level which will be achieved through a combination of on the job training and shadowing experienced Housing Assistants within the team. 

The successful applicant on reaching a required level of competency will provide cover for our busy reception desk working alongside an experienced member of the team to provide advice and guidance to our customers. 

You will be provided with on the job support to enable the successful completion of an apprenticeship qualification at Level 2 with potential for the position to be made permanent following successful completion of the apprenticeship programme.

The external training element attached to this post is to be funded through the Apprenticeship Levy Scheme, and it is a requirement that candidates must qualify for support, under the Apprenticeship Levy Scheme.

On The Move are in the process of adopting a new Allocations Policy and software system.  This is a significant and large scale change which will have a significant impact on modernising our service.  It is expected that the Apprentice will assist in transferring applications from the old system to the new and assist with other associated tasks in ensuring the project is delivered. 

On achieving a sound and working knowledge within the Assistants role the Apprentice will have opportunity to shadow other sections within Housing, enabling a wider knowledge and opportunity for career progression.  

Along with developing excellent customer care skills the successful applicant will develop their administrative skills and interpersonal skills. 

You will work within a small team and become a reliable and trusted member of the team, eventually offering help and support to other team members. 

Overall we are looking for a candidate who will develop within the role and has potential to progress further.

Job description and person specification

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and organised individual to effectively execute and manage the day to day fleet management activity for Chesterfield Borough Council.

The role will focus on coordinating the Councils fleet to ensure that the Council is legally compliant, ensuring best practice and guaranteeing a high level of service.

This will involve applying a consistent approach to the control of both vehicles and employees who drive Council vehicles with a particular emphasis on health and safety.

The post holder will also manage the Fleet and Facilities Assistant and mechanics which involve the coordination of the service and maintenance of Environmental Services plant and equipment.

The successful candidate will possess good communication, negotiating and IT skills, have experience of managing fleet and facilities and be able to work flexibly.

 A full driving licence is an essential requirement for this vacancy.
