Kier Asset Partnership Services work with Chesterfield Borough Council to provide engineering services to the Borough and wider community.  As a part of this the structural engineer will assist in the delivery of the Structural Engineering workload to achieve approved programmes of work and meet approved target levels of service delivery.

 You will:

  • Deputise for the Senior Structural Engineer as necessary and manage the work of project teams in respect of specific projects.
  • Special responsibility for geotechnical engineering including site investigation, foundation engineering, contamination, land reclamation; plus providing advice to private developers and other departments. Advice on land sales and purchases.
  • Concept design, detail design, technical drawing, cost estimates, tender and contract documentation, tender analysis, site supervision and control relating to structural and/or geotechnical aspects of both building and civil engineering projects. Responsible for / supervision of design team on capital schemes.
  • Checking of structural calculations in-house and as submitted by developers or consultants for approval under the Building Regulations.
  • Provide structural advice to Building Control on 'dangerous structures'.
  • ‘Forensic engineering’, investigating and reporting on building failures; negotiating with insurers, loss adjustors and external consultants; designing and supervising remedial works.
  • Structural condition surveys and detailed reports of all different forms of buildings.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act. and other associated legislation in respect of the Groups’ activities. E.g. CDM Regulations, Party Wall Act, Defective Dwelling Act.
  • Ensure compliance with the statutory duties of Designer, Client, Client Agent and Planning Supervisor as imposed by the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.

  4. To assist with Contract Administration and Contract Management.
