Young people and their and parents and carers are invited to come along to an event to learn more about apprenticeships and the options available to them locally.
Everyone is welcome to come along to the Apprenticeship and Technical Education Information Event, organised by Chesterfield Borough Council in partnership with East Midlands Combined County Authority Careers Hub, on 4 March from 6pm at Chesterfield Football Club.
More than 400 people have attended these events in the last two academic years, to find out more about further learning or career opportunities in Chesterfield and surrounding areas.
The event at the football club will focus on Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering, Health and Social Care.
There will also be a question-and-answer panel and the opportunity to speak with Young Apprentice ambassadors to gain a full understanding of different opportunities within these sectors once completing formal education.
There will also be live apprenticeship vacancies that can be discussed directly with employers at the event too.
No booking is needed, but this is a popular event so please arrive promptly at 6pm.
Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council and vice chair of the Skills and Employment Partnership, said: “I encourage as many young people and their families as possible to come along to this event to find out more about opportunities in Chesterfield and surrounding areas. We have had great feedback from those who have attended the previous events about how the information they found out helps them to make informed decisions about their future career paths.
“The sessions are organised in partnership with East Midlands Combined County Authority Careers Hub and local businesses to ensure that all of the topics covered in the event are relevant to attendees and over-time can help businesses to grow by employing young people in their organisations.”
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: “Apprenticeships play a vital role in opening doors for young people and giving them the skills they need to build rewarding careers. Too many young people feel like they need to choose between earning and learning: apprenticeships mean they can have both.
“The EMCCA Careers Hub supports events with local partners like Chesterfield Borough Council because they are a chance to show the breadth of choice in the local area. They bring together young people, families, employers, and educators in one place: connecting local young people to inspiration and opportunity.
“In this way, the EMCCA Careers Hub serves both the young people and employers of the region: creating clear pathways into good jobs while also supporting employers to develop the skilled workforce they need to grow.”
Employers attending the event at Chesterfield Football Club include Chesterfield Royal Hospital, NT Killingley, MSE Hiller and United Cast Bar, plus Chesterfield College, Nottingham Trent University and The University of Derby will be attending as educational providers.
