Everything you can see at Chesterfield Glow Up

Chesterfield is set to be transformed with an exciting new event that will light up the Market and entertain crowds.

Chesterfield Glow Up is on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March, on both days’ music, the funfair and market will open at 12 noon, with more entertainment starting at 4pm and ‘Twist and Shout’, an immersive projection artwork that will light up the Market Hall will run on a loop from 7pm until 8pm.

There is lots to see and do at the event – here are some of the highlights so you can start planning your visit.

‘Twist and Shout’

A bespoke light show that celebrates Chesterfield, will be projected onto the Market Hall. It has been created by internationally acclaimed projection artists Illuminos who have worked with students from Chesterfield College and the community to create the piece. It will be shown on a loop from 7pm until 8pm on both days.

Live music

Local musicians will be taking centre stage in the main market square from 12 noon on both Friday and Saturday. You’ll find a great mixture of genres throughout the day. The full line-up includes:

Sticky Bones Jones at 12 noon - Bluegrass, Blues, Americana

Jodie Smith at 1pm - Pop

Tim Wadden at 2pm - Jazz

Brian and Jackie at 3pm - Folk Duo

The Fabulous Bundell Brothers and Friends at 4pm - Folk

Sanj at 5pm -  Mix of genres covering Jazz, Pop and Old Standards

Kevin Taylor at 6pm - Eclectic mix of genres covering Pop, Rock and Country

Saturday:

Sticky Bones Jones at 12 noon - Bluegrass, Blues, Americana

Ellie Foster at 1pm - Pop

Lexi Whiteside at 2pm - High Energy Bangers

The Brothers Cotton at 3pm - Pop Rock Duo

Liv Ibell at 4pm - Avant Garde / Alternative

Andy Purves at 5pm - Eclectic Mix of Rock, Pop, Soul

Callum Parkinson at 6pm - Eclectic Mix of Pop, Alternative Covers and Country Blues

Paper lantern crafting

My Arty Party will be hosting a free workshop from 4pm until 8pm on both days where you can create custom paper lanterns decorated with silhouettes and tissue paper using objects depicted in the projection light show. An LED tealight will be provided to illuminate lanterns.

The Observation Wheel and vintage funfair rides

A 35-metre observation wheel will be in New Square for visitors to take in breath-taking views of the town and surrounding area. It will be accompanied by a classic Carousel and vintage Helter Skelter. The observation wheel and rides will remain in New Square until 12 April. You can prebook your ride on the Observation Wheel.

Night Market

A great selection of traders will be at the event, selling a wide variety of products including gifts, handmade items, sweets, food, and much more.

Street food and vintage London bus bar

A selection of street food vendors will be set up across both squares on Friday and Saturday. They’ll be joined by a vintage London bus bar which will be serving both alcoholic and soft drinks in the main market square. 

Stilt walkers

Stilt walkers will be appearing in the Market in colourful costumes from 4pm on both days and after 6.30pm they will be lit up with LEDs. 

Pixel Spinners

Pixel Spinners will be delighting crowds with an ever-changing routine of colours and patterns in the air using amazing props from 6.45pm on both days. 

Lumen Array

Lumen Array will be performing a mesmeric fusion of music and light, perfectly synchronised within a high-tech array of LEDs, and state of the art LED pixel poi displaying beautiful imagery. Expect to see them on both days after the sun goes down.

Angie Mack Hula Hooper

Angie Mack will be performing Hula Hoop walkabouts and workshops throughout Saturday. After the sun goes down, she will be performing with her special illuminated Hula Hoops.  

Halo

Halo will be performing with juggling clubs and visual poi at intervals on Friday after sunset.

Free UV face painting and glitter tattoos

You’ll be able to get your face painted with UV paints and glitter tattoos to help bring a sparkle to the event for free on both days from 4pm until 8pm. 

Chesterfield Glow Up was part funded from the Mayor of the East Midlands and East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) from funding provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

The projection lighting show was funded through Animate Chesterfield - a programme of public art which will create artworks and activates through the regeneration programmes happening in both Chesterfield and Staveley.
