It was with deep sadness that Chesterfield Borough Council shared news of the death of Alderman Terry Gilby last week.
His family has now confirmed that Terry’s funeral will take place on Thursday 2 October 2025, at 12noon in St Bartholomew’s Parish Church, Old Whittington, followed by burial in the churchyard.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects is welcome to attend the service, which will be conducted by The Rev’d Jo Morris.
In honour of Terry’s tireless commitment to the people of Chesterfield borough, the funeral cortège will drive past the front of Chesterfield Town Hall on its way to church.
In lieu of floral tributes people are invited to make a donation to local charity, Chesterfield Care Group.
Terry held many roles during the best part of four decades of service to the people of Chesterfield borough, including his time serving as the 359th Mayor of Chesterfield from 1999 to 2000, and as Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Planning following his appointment in 2011.
In September 2023, Terry was recognised for his eminent services to the council and to the people of Chesterfield, receiving the honorary title of Alderman.
