Writing to the mayor

If you are writing to the mayor, all letters should be addressed to:

The Mayor of Chesterfield
Mayor’s Parlour
Town Hall
Rose Hill
Chesterfield
S40 1LP

Your letter should begin with "Dear Mr Mayor and Madam Mayoress".

Your letter should end "Yours faithfully".

The mayor should be introduced as "The Worshipful Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor (first name and surname)".

The mayoress should be introduced as "The Mayoress of Chesterfield, (title, first name and surname)".

The deputy mayor should be introduced as "The Deputy Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor (first name and surname)".

The deputy mayoress should be introduced as "The Deputy Mayoress of Chesterfield, (title, first name and surname)".

First names should not be used.

A female mayor is addressed as Madam Mayor. Her husband or partner is address as Mr Consort.

A male mayor is addressed as Mr Mayor. His wife or partner is addressed as Mayoress.
