Visitor information service privacy notice

This privacy notice explains what information the council needs in order to deliver the services provided by the visitor information service. 

In order to provide these services, it is necessary for the council to collect, store and process personal data relating to customers. 

Safeguards are in place to ensure that this data is kept secure and the privacy of individuals is protected.

Who is responsible for your information?

Chesterfield Borough Council is the data controller for the personal information collected.

Tickets and events

In order to sell tickets for events, attractions and bus tickets, we may need to collect some personal information from you.

When you buy a National Express bus ticket, or apply for a coach card. The council acts as an agent of National Express; this means that Chesterfield Borough Council is acting as a data processor on behalf of National Express, who is the data controller.

Purposes of processing your personal data

We will use your information to take a payment and book you onto an event or provide you with a ticket. If you have booked onto an event in the future, we may also use your details to tell you about any changes or cancellations to that event.

  • proof of age – if applying for concessions

Under data protection legislation, this processing is allowed because it forms part of the performance of a contract.

Who we share your personal data with

When you buy a ticket for a service provided by a third party - for example to visit an attraction, a bus ticket, or an event organised by another organisation – we will pass the information we collect to the third party. This is necessary to complete your booking.

Purposes for processing your data

When you book onto an event, you may be asked if you would like to receive further information about similar events in the future. If you agree, you will be added to our mailing list for that event - for example the Walking Festival or Derbyshire Archaeology Day. This could involve us contacting you by post, email or telephone/SMS text.

Under data protection legislation, this processing is allowed because we have the consent of the individual. You can withdraw your consent for this processing at any time using the contact details below.

Gold Card bus passes

We process Gold Card (national bus passes) applications on behalf of Derbyshire County Council. Derbyshire County Council are the data controller for the information you provide with your application; Chesterfield Borough Council is acting as a data processor in this instance. Purposes for processing your data

To apply for a Gold Card, you need to provide us with contact details, a photo and proof of your eligibility; this will include information about your health and/or age. This information is used to check your identity and eligibility, as well as to ensure that no one except you can use your Gold Card.

If you apply for a Gold Card, your information will be shared with Derbyshire County Council. It may also be shared with the cabinet office as part of the National Fraud Initiative.
