Children learn more about the Staveley Town Deal

60 local school children visited the canal where they learnt more about the projects being funded through the Staveley Town Deal.

Year six pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School were taken on a trip along the Chesterfield Canal by the Chesterfield Canal Trust after speaking with Ivan Fomin Chair of the Staveley Town Deal Board about how the funding will change the town and canal.

£25.2m investment for Staveley announced

Town leaders have welcomed a multi-million pound funding boost which will pave the way for significant regeneration in a former mining community in North Derbyshire.

Staveley is set to benefit from £25.2m worth of funding following the Government’s Town Deal programme announcement – presenting a ‘golden opportunity’ to transform the area for future generations.

It follows a successful bid for funding by the Staveley Town Deal Board, which submitted a Town Investment Plan to unlock the funding package for a range of projects that will drive long term economic growth, offer quality skills and employment opportunities and improve the green spaces and canal network around Staveley.

Staveley Town Investment Plan

As part of the Town Deal, 101 towns across the country have been identified and asked to bid for up to £25 million each. Following community consultation, engagement, project planning and analysis of needs, Staveley’s ambitious plans for a Town Deal with Central Government has been presented to Government on 11 December 2020.

Pupils get creative to design a new logo for ambitious town project

Staveley Town Deal LogoPupils at Springwell Community College were challenged to create a new logo to capture the spirit of a major project which aims to regenerate their town.

Almost 70 young people submitted their designs to the Staveley Town Deal logo competition, which was launched in September for year seven pupils at the school.

Staveley Town Deal has exciting opportunities for the area. In preparing our Town Investment Plan (TIP) for Government, we first set out the geography for the Town Deal and in this map and area profile document the key statistics and economic information about the area are shown.

We work through the Town Board, who review and shape our plans, strategy and range of projects as we proceed. We aim to submit our before Christmas 2020 to Government. It will be thoroughly assessed by different departments of Government against a range of principles and guidance; prior to any funding award being made.
