Barrow Hill Community Trust is the community development charity for the village of Barrow Hill and surrounding neighbourhoods.
It is leading on the refurbishment of Barrow Hill Memorial Hall to create a modern community hub where residents can access support services and socialise together. The project will also create 15 new full-time jobs.
Work started on phase one of the project in early 2025.
This will renovate the centre of the ground floor to bring a new gathering space to the community - including a community-owned pub and cafe which can also host social meals and the community food pantry.
It will renovate an area of the building to create a community health hub which will provide NHS services for residents.
Improvements to the fabric of the building like a new roof, new utilities, a new heating/ventilation system and a new changing places toilet will also be completed during this phase.
This first phase will allow the Trust to reopen the building for the benefit of the community.
The Trust has ambitious plans to continue the refurbishment with the creation of a reading room, community venue and spaces for young people in the future but this is dependent on further funding.
