Pools Brook, at 165 acres, is Chesterfield's largest park. It offers something for everybody, with miles of trails, extensive woodland plantations, meadows, lakes, children's play areas and wildlife habitats.

The park lies to the east of Chesterfield, between Poolsbrook and Staveley, with the main entrance being off Erin Road (S43 3WL). It is easily accessible from junction 29A of the M1 or from the A619 Chesterfield to Worksop Road.

The park is open to pedestrians 24 hours a day all year round and closes at dusk to vehicles.

Coffee Stop Café

The Coffee Stop Café in the pavilion, serves hot and cold drinks and food.

Opening times

Normal hours - Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm (weather permitting)

Winter hours - Monday to Friday 10am to 2.30pm (weather permitting)

There are adequate public conveniences (open daily).

Walkers and cyclists are welcome to use the extensive networks of trails and horse riding is permitted on certain way-marked routes.

The park links to the Trans Pennine Trail, allowing visitors to access the wider countryside.

Habitats and wildlife

Pools Brook Country Park is a SINC and is a very important site locally for biodiversity.

The site is a mosaic of habitats for wildlife including wildflower hay meadows, species-rich hedgerows, semi-natural woodland and new woodland plantations, wet grassland, scrub, lakes and brook. These are managed for the benefit of wildlife through funding provided by Natural England's Environmental Stewardship schemes

The council and the Friends of Poolsbrook Country Park are currently developing the park with a view to achieving the coveted Green Flag award in the near future.

Poolsbrook Country Park was created from the former Erin Colliery site in the 1990s.
The park was reclaimed from colliery spoil heaps which were left behind from the now closed Ireland Pit.
