About the role

We’re looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Team Leader to join our Building Cleaning team. This is a key leadership role where you’ll manage staff, resources, and service delivery to ensure our buildings are cleaned to the highest standards.

You’ll play a vital part in shaping the service, supporting innovation, and making a positive contribution to the council’s reputation and community wellbeing.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and inspire a team of cleaning operatives to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services
  • Manage staff effectively, holding regular one-to-ones, appraisals, and team meetings
  • Oversee resources including staff allocation, equipment, materials, transport, and PPE
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met and support accident investigations
  • Respond to customer enquiries professionally and promptly
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery
  • Carry out operational duties when required
  • Report hazards, suggest improvements, and promote efficient working methods

What we’re looking for

Essential skills and experience:

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to motivate others and communicate effectively
  • Experience working in cleaning services
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements in cleaning activities
  • Full driving licence
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent)

Qualifications

  • Management qualification (or willingness to obtain through apprenticeship framework)
  • NVQ Level 2 essential; NVQ Level 3 desirable

Special requirements

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required
  • Ability to work across different council venues

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or working towards)
  • Experience leading teams, managing staff absence, and carrying out appraisals
  • Knowledge of commercial opportunities in cleaning services
