You can discover more about volunteering opportunities to help people connect with history and culture at a series of drop-in sessions.
Chesterfield Borough Council is seeking volunteers to help create a memorable and enjoyable experience for visitors at 1435, which is set to open later this year.
The initial programme will recruit around 90 volunteers across two key roles - one of which will help provide a friendly welcome to the new theatre and museum and the other will help improve accessibility for all visitors.
Drop-in sessions to find out more about these volunteering opportunities will be held at The Winding Wheel Theatre on Tuesday 14 April and Wednesday 29 April from 10.30am to 2.30pm. There will also be town centre sessions in the Pavements Shopping Centre from 10am to 12.30pm on Thursday 16 April and from 10am to 3pm on Thursday 30 April on Chesterfield Market.
Owned and operated by Chesterfield Borough Council, 1435, will be a combined theatre and museum in the heart of the town centre. Volunteers will complement existing staff to enrich the visitor experience at the new venue.
Anthony Radford, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cultural services manager, said: “Volunteering offers you the opportunity to meet and connect with the community – it can also have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing. Our volunteer programme at 1435, will complement our professional staff and will help expand the offer at the new venue and ensure visitors to the new venue can have an even better experience
“I’d encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering at 1435 to come along to one of our drop-in sessions to find out more.”
All volunteers will be provided with role specific training and will receive ongoing support and recognition.
1435 combines a 625-seat theatre and expanded museum, along with two bars and community spaces, in Stephenson Memorial Hall.
The building is currently being transformed and is set to reopen to audiences and visitors later this year.
