Following the passing of Chesterfield FC’s owner, Phil Kirk, the Leader of the council has issued the below statement.
Councillor Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “Everyone at Chesterfield Borough Council are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Phil Kirk.
“Alongside his brother Ashley and the Club’s executive, Phil has transformed Chesterfield Football Club in recent seasons including masterminding the Club’s return to the English Football League.
“As well as his commercial intellect, Phil will be remembered for the passion, energy and enthusiasm he brought to the Club. Phil had a genuine love for the Club and all involved with it, especially its supporters.
“Phil leaves a huge legacy on which the Club’s future fortunes can be built. He will be greatly missed.
“Our thoughts are with Phil’s family and friends, and all at Chesterfield Football Club at this difficult time.”
