About the role

We’re looking for a proactive and organised Market Supervisor to help keep Chesterfield’s historic open-air markets thriving. This hands-on role is central to the smooth day-to-day running of the market, ensuring it remains clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for traders and visitors alike

You’ll lead a small team of Market Attendants, coordinate stall layouts, and oversee operations to ensure each trading day runs efficiently. Your responsibilities will also include managing trader storage, supporting fee collection, carrying out basic maintenance, and assisting with special market events and town centre activities throughout the year.

This is a dynamic and varied role - one day you might be setting up stalls before sunrise, and the next helping plan a themed market or community event.

About you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • has experience supervising in a customer-facing or operational environment
  • is confident, approachable, and able to build strong relationships with traders and the public
  • can organise and motivate a small team, while being hands-on and practical
  • is comfortable with practical, outdoor work and tasks that may involve manual handling or active movement
  • holds a full UK driving licence

Experience in markets, retail, or facilities management is a plus, as are basic maintenance skills or health and safety training.

Why join Chesterfield?

You’ll be part of an exciting chapter in the revitalisation of Chesterfield Market - creating a vibrant, flexible space that honours our heritage and supports local business growth.

We offer:

  • a supportive team environment
  • strong commitment to staff development
  • competitive employee benefits including pension and generous annual leave
