About the Role

As an Environmental Services Officer, you will carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance activities to help keep Chesterfield clean, safe and attractive. Your duties will include:

  • Mowing grass verges, parks and open spaces using pedestrian and ride‑on mowers
  • Operating other petrol‑powered equipment as required
  • Emptying litter and dog waste bins
  • Undertaking litter‑picking duties across the borough

There may also be opportunities to support more specialist tasks, such as:

  • Fine turf maintenance
  • Sports pitch preparation
  • Drainage works

This is a hands‑on role where you will make a visible difference to the local environment and the experience of residents and visitors.

Who We’re Looking For

Our ideal candidate will have experience in:

  • Grounds maintenance
  • Street cleansing
  • Or a similar operational environment

You will be a proactive, positive and customer‑focused individual who can interact with the public in a friendly and helpful manner while contributing to the high standards and reputation of the service.

Working Hours & Requirements

  • 37 hours per week
  • Some weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis – flexibility is essential
  • A full driving licence is required, as the role involves driving Council vehicles
