We are looking for a highly motivated plant mechanic to join our environmental services team to maintain, service, and repair a diverse range of vehicles, plant, horticultural, and agricultural equipment. Chesterfield Borough Council operates a modern fleet of vehicles that we preventively maintain to a very high standard.
The suitable applicant will be workshop-based but will be required to attend vehicles at the roadside, parks, or at satellite depots.
Responsibilities include:
- conduct thorough inspections of vehicles, plant, and machinery
- perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, brake repairs, and tyre rotations
- diagnose mechanical problems, using appropriate tools and techniques
- repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools and power tools
- maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed
- ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards in all tasks
- collaborate with team members to improve processes and efficiency
The successful candidate should have proven experience as a mechanic or in a similar role or have served a recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle engineering to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. A full driving license is required; a Category B driving license or Cat C would be advantageous. Fabrication skills and welding experience would be beneficial but are not essential.
This is a physically demanding role with specific effort required, including walking, kneeling, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, and carrying—or any other physical attribute required for the role.
If you are passionate about being a vehicle technician and eager to contribute to a dynamic and friendly team, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
