The Best Bar None scheme - supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry - was introduced locally in 2023 by Chesterfield Borough Council, in partnership with Best Bar None, Chesterfield Pubwatch, and Derbyshire Constabulary. The initiative aims to foster strong relationships between the licensed trade, police, and local authorities while championing improvements in venue management and best practices.
All licensed premises in the borough have been invited to apply for the Best Bar None status – which is free of charge for all venues. Those who have passed the assessment will be officially awarded their accreditation at the awards ceremony.
There will also be five more special awards up for grabs on the evening, chosen as part of the accreditation assessment process. These awards will celebrate the best managed venue, best restaurant, best tenanted venue, best independent venue and the overall best venue.
Councillor Jean Innes, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “We’re lucky to have so many great bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants in Chesterfield and those that are signed up to the Best Bar None scheme are all playing a part to ensure everyone can feel safe when socialising in the borough.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating how our accredited venues at the Best Bar None awards on 8 July, and we want to hear from you too, so make sure you vote for your favourite venue to win the People’s Choice Award 2026.”
