We are carrying out a Scoping Consultation and Call for Sites as part of our new local plan, have your say by 5pm on Sunday 12 July 2026.
As a Local Planning Authority, we are required to find, assess and allocate sites for development and other land uses, as part of our preparation of a new Local Plan.
The preparation of a new Local Plan requires the Local Planning Authority to find, assess and allocate sites for development and other land uses.
Sites are found from a number of ‘sources of supply’ which include sites submitted to the council for consideration as part of a Call for Sites.
Our approach
We are following the approach to finding, assessing and allocating sites as set out in the Government’s draft new guidance which sets out four stages:
- Stage 1 – identifying sites
- Stage 2 – assessing sites
- Stage 3 – determining your draft allocations
- Stage 4 – confirming your draft allocations and recording your decisions
The stages may be repeated as and when necessary, with results changing depending on what information is available to us at the time.
We have approached the initial assessment of sites as shown in the methodology below.

Results of the 2025 Call for Sites
The results to date are available to download below in various formats.
You can also use our online Call For Sites 2025 Results (Initial Site Assessment): Residential Scenario system to view interactive maps of sites that have have passed stage 1 of site assessment, or have been excluded from further assessment for residential development.
Next steps
Sites that have not been excluded will be assessed further by our planning service, alongside other sources of land supply to see how well they fit with different strategy options for a new Local Plan.
This assessment will be done alongside other sites that the council thinks need considering - such as existing Local Plan allocations and employment areas. The further assessment will consider other constraints to development such as land contamination, access problems, or infrastructure requirements, and the likely environmental effects of developing a site.
The results of this strategic options and more detailed site assessment will be published at the latest alongside the draft new Local Plan.
Sites that have not been excluded in the Stage 1 and Initial Stage 2 assessments are not guaranteed to be allocated in our new Local Plan.
